Extending your Reach in the Community is Good for Business

05/22/2015 Adrienne N. Hester

community event 1Whether you are a start-up or a mature business, your company will benefit from establishing some type of community outreach. This could be a one-time or annual event, an ongoing program, a fundraiser. A focus on community outreach can be as valuable in growing your business and getting name recognition as the usual channels of promotion.

To be successful at community outreach, you will want to develop a solid plan. This can be the equivalent to writing a proposal or a business plan. Using the services of a consultant can be very beneficial in taking you from idea to implementation.

There is a broad range of types of programs and a host of things to consider when establishing a Community Outreach Program:

  • What kind of program will complement your business? Example: a hardware store works with building housing for the homeless.
  • What are the needs of the community; where are the gaps? Research may show there's a Children's Hospital with a need for toys.
  • What are your goals for your business and for giving back? Setting goals will give you a way to measure your effectiveness.
  • What resources do you have to commit to this type of program? Join an existing effort by becoming a sponsor or create your own, such as scholarships for disadvantaged teens.
  • How do you fund it? Will you need money to implement the plan or do you want to raise money to give to the cause?
  • How will you brand your initiative? Find a unique name that will bring brand recognition and become synonymous with your business.
  • Who will be your audience and your partners?

You may have parts of this puzzle in mind, but you are sure to have missing pieces. TwoGirlsConsulting (2GC) "builds mutually beneficial relationships between companies and their audience with solid strategies to develop awareness and grow businesses." Contact us today.
